Different Signs for Different Times

We visited Seattle Washington and stayed in the section of town known as Fremont, the same place the Google lives in.

The town was awesome, but this sign was a tad 60's or 70's ...  I was thinking, Huka?  Bong? What is it?

As it turns out, on the other side of the sign, they got it right.

The Sell Pipes, Wine, the have an ATM and they sell Ice.

No Wine Pipes after all.
